🇪🇸 Creator platforms in Spain

What Spain-based creators should know about payouts, taxes, and platform fit.

Spain has a sizeable creator economy and a mature payment-rail infrastructure, but creators here face some of the stiffest social-contribution costs in the EU. Stripe Spain is solid, EU VAT OSS works, and Spanish creators benefit from Spain being both a large domestic market and a gateway to Latin American audiences. The friction is tax-side: autonomo status is expensive, and platforms that act as Merchant of Record are disproportionately valuable here.

VAT / IVA. Spain uses a standard 21% IVA rate for most digital services. EU sales above the OSS threshold go through the One Stop Shop. Below threshold sales stay under the Spanish regime. Gumroad and LemonSqueezy as MoR handle this cleanly; pure platforms (Substack, Patreon, Beehiiv) push it back to you.

Autonomo costs. Spanish self-employed creators pay a monthly cuota a la Seguridad Social — roughly €230/month minimum in 2026 even at zero income, scaling with earnings. Factor this into whether creator income is worth the fixed cost. Many small creators structure income through an SL (limited company) or through Portugal's NHR/IFICI regimes when relocation is feasible.

Payout currency. EUR native. SEPA transfers work cleanly via Stripe Spain.
