Italian creators operate in an EU-standard infrastructure but against one of Europe's most complex tax regimes. Stripe Italy works, EU VAT OSS handles cross-border sales, and Italy's regime forfettario flat-tax scheme (€85,000/year cap) dramatically simplifies things for creators who qualify. Outside the forfettario, accounting overhead goes up fast.
IVA / VAT. Italian IVA is 22% standard. The regime forfettario exempts qualifying self-employed creators from IVA and uses a flat ~5-15% tax rate (varies by first-5-years status). For cross-EU sales outside forfettario, OSS is the standard path. MoR platforms (Gumroad, LemonSqueezy) remove IVA worry entirely.
Commercialista required. Unlike Germany or France where many creators self-file, Italian tax practice effectively requires a commercialista (certified accountant) even for simple self-employed situations. Factor ~€600-€1500/year for this. Creators without commercialista support often make costly filing mistakes.
Payout currency. EUR native. SEPA transfers via Stripe Italy work cleanly.
